Volunteering

It is our commitment to provide exciting and memorable learning experiences for the children at Velma E. Baker School. Your child is our number one focus. By working together as partners, we can make a difference in your child(ren)’s education. Parents are valued partners who play an integral role in their child’s learning. We encourage all parents to take an active role in their child’s education and we welcome you to the school. All parents are invited to participate in the School and Parent Advisory Councils’ monthly, evening meetings. You are welcome to be involved in helping in the library, reading with a student, assisting in the classroom, supervising on field trips or sharing a special interest or talent with our students. As the old proverb goes: It takes a village to raise a child.

Confidentiality as a volunteer is of utmost importance at Velma E. Baker School. The following are Edmonton Public Schools’ confidentiality criteria:

  • A volunteer must respect the privacy of students and staff. Any information about students or staff, personal or otherwise, learned through the course of volunteering is to remain confidential.
  • A volunteer must hold any information collected, used, generated, or stored by an Edmonton Public School as strictly confidential.
  • A volunteer must not disclose, communicate, publish, remove, copy, or destroy any Edmonton Public Schools documents unless specifically authorized to do so by a teacher, principal or designate.
  • A volunteer must respect that the principal and teaching staff are responsible for student learning and behaviour.

All volunteers are required to complete a district form prior to assisting in the school. We look forward to a wonderful partnership as we support your children, our students.
